You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Have Led To More Pain

Whether you are a professional endurance athlete or a sports enthusiast, you might have come across some of these myths when trying to get help for your injury or performance enhancement tactics.
Your friends, family, or even doctors might have given you bad advice with good intentions, but it led you to being in more pain as most of this advice is just not true.

MYTH #1 - YOU SHOULD REST AND SLOW DOWN
One of the biggest myths I hear almost every from new patients is that resting and slowing down will make you recover faster from an injury, or it will help in regaining more strength and mobility. This is simply not the case. Regardless of what you might have heard from your doctor before, rest is the worst thing you can do. You might have been told to slow down, cut some of your training, and take longer breaks to help your condition. But if you rest, the pain will increase and you won't be able to do anything as your joints and muscles get stiff. It's important to keep active and be able to train in the right way to get better and stay safe, and this is what I can help you with.
MYTH #2 - medication helps to recover and enhance performance
Many athletes may train regularly and compete every weekend but still be reliant on over-the-counter medication to make it through. This acts as a mask that allows them to train at the level they used to train at, but overlooks the root cause of their problem and ultimately hindering their performance and leading to more problems in the future. Medication is just a band-aid for your problems, it won't fix you, it won't enhance your performance, but it certainly will weaken your body and decrease the current level you're performing at.
MYTH #3 - you don't need expert advice to do stretches for pain
Another common myth I come across quite often is people thinking that they don't need advice on how to stretch to reduce their pain. You might take a guess at what's wrong with your body and try to treat it yourself, but that will rarely help you and you will end up getting more pain and injuries. I've seen athletes continuously stretching and foam rolling, and they kept repeating the same mistakes when doing so, which then led them to more pain and problems. This is why you need expert advice to be able to do stretches correctly and do the right exercises to achieve your goals.
MYTH #4 - slowing down is just a part of ageing
I've heard many times that it's normal to slow down and be in worse shape than before if you're getting older and are in your 30s, 40s, or even 50s. However, this is simply not the case. A lot of endurance athletes don't recover as fast as they used to, and they don't run as fast as they did before, but it's not caused by their age. If you are doing the right things, your performance doesn't have to decline, and you can stave off the ageing process from a performance standpoint and continue to train and compete. Age is not the measurement of your success in sports, so don't shift the blame on it, and get expert advice on how you can improve your performance.
